was a simple water pump change but no

I'm changeing my waterpump, gasket and pump housing gasket. The screw on the themostat bypass line stripped in the pump housing and now leaks. I taped it out but no help. Is there a seal, or heat resistant puddy or heat resistant caulk or jbweld that i can use. Do you think i need to go to the junkyard and get a new pump housing. Help my wife needs her car. And me some piece of mind. RAY M
Waiting to finish today

change it

Ray,
If it was me, I'd probably waste time trying all of the things you suggested and in the end wind up replacing it. So save the aggravation and just skip to the changing it.

Luck,
John

Thanks. I was just hopeing not to have to fight with putting the houseing gasket on again. Everything else is easy. Deep down i thought i should change it. I'm just glad it stripped on the housing and not on the engine head block.

Even more fun. When replaceing the pump housing i loostened the 2 bolts that secure the thermoustat housing not knowing there was a gasket between that and the head. There wasn't enough water in the system so i did not see anything drip when i repositioned it slightly to allow enough room to slip the housing into the 2inch hose that connects the pump housing and the thermostat housing. I put it all back added water and found a leak at the therostar gasket.
Luck has it I had one in box i got from someone a time back. All's well now and dry. I had to put some masking tape on the pump housing gasker right on each edge to keep it in place until i got the bolts in place. Before i tightened the bolts i removed it easily because the masking tape isn't a strong tape. That made the job much easier.
I figured i'd mention all the fun i had so you might go about it easier
