Rec 8 in a W126?

Hi there. I'm planning on installing the rec 8 keyless entry on my 300SD. I read through the DIY for the install, seems easy enough. When I went looking on the internet for somewhere to buy it, I came across a post on the mbca site about the doors not locking with the rec 8 module. He got a reply from Bill Streep, who wrote the diy, and it seems that the rec 8 doesn't work with all cars.

So...has anyone installed a Rec 8 in their W126? Did it work? If you installed something else, what was the brand, how much was it, and was the install similar to to the DIY article?

And...has anyone installed a remote starter? I read a post on here of someone who found a remote starter module that wires to the glow plugs, but I don't think he said what brand it was or where to find one.

Thanks!

The brute force way around central locking is to fit a solenoid on the lever that leads to the driver door lock button.

Some remote start systems have a built-in glow timer. I don't know which those are.

The bigger problem is a mechanism to shuf off the engine because cutting electrical power won't do it. You can use a vacuum switching valve as is used in a W140 Diesel (my car) but you might have to use that switch all the time vs using the vacuum key switch when starting the engine by turning the key.
