To replace the front tranny seal
in an '82 300SD, do I have to pull the engine?
Thanks

You don't have to pull it but you do have to get it out of the way
.Unfortunately, the transmission has to come out OR the engine pulled.

Much easier to drop the tranny IMO.

I recently had to replace the top tranny bolts because the person that rebuilt my tranny for the p/o put the wrong size bolts in and they weren't seating, causing pretty obnoxious vibrations. Getting to the top bolts isn't that hard. Just get a helper and be creative with several feet of extensions. Pulling the motor, however, also isn't too bad.

In an 82 SD the top tranny bolts are easily accessible from above.
