how much to pay for a w123 compression check?

...a local shop quoted $225 just to check the compression (nothing else) on a 82 300DT im looking to purchase.

im thinking this is way too much, is it?

thanks!

My local indy quoted about that much but it was for:
  • compression check
  • pop test and check spray pattern on injectors
  • balance injectors if required, shims included
  • new injectors as needed (+ parts cost)
  • check glow plugs (replacement + parts and additional labor)

$65.00 for leakdown and or compression test...not both.
$130.00. injector pressure/pop test.

Both together on same engine ...$162.50.

i hope i misunderstood...what should i expect?

thanks for all of the responses!

the same shop quoted me $160 for a general inspection of the car. im hoping the $225 was total for compression and the inspection. it must have been, ill call to clarify tomorrow.

if the car seems to run very well (200k miles, no apparent lack of power), has what i think to be average blowby, and is reported by the owner to have a *little* trouble starting on a cold morning, how bad should i expect the compression readings to be?
