Idle speed increase question

My 190D and I were going for a spin when the throttle went to wide open at a red light. My foot was on the brake when she did this. I've checked The shop manual and it makes mention of a Idle speed increase actuator. I could understand burping the throttle to prevent stalling but this thing floors it. (It started spinning the right rear a lil'. I got a bit misty eyed). Any ideas on where to go from here.

Thanks
WG

First thing is disconnect the cruse control linkage. I believe that is the only thing that can cause that much difference.

The cruise is/was disconnected. I'm studying the IP controls/specs to see what would cause this. there is not any binding in the linkage. It's happening within the IP.

I thought I read something last night about a bad voltage regulator can cause that. Something about wild & uncontrolled idle changes.

OK, I just went to the garage and started it up. It idled fine for a few and I watched the throttle lever on the IP slowly bump the idle up. I shut it down at 2500 rpm's. Does anyone have a decent exploded view of these IPs or a setting spec sheet?

How are the return springs on the linkage? I've seen weak springs do that as well, since they could not hold back the force of the intake air. This was on a gasser with a carb. The air flow would open the butterfly, which is connected to the accellerator pump, which is connected to the throttle linkage. Also had a Ford LTD whose throttle control electonics were flaky, and resulted in self accelration. Not a good thing while in a school zone !

The springs are fine and the linkage is fine. Im going to study this thing to death and see where I can get with it.
