Geesh

no one is going to be able to give you accurate info every state is different In nh over 20 year old car doesnt even need a title
You might want to look at the problem that every car you go to buy has a problem?????? Might be the buyer???? You seem to have more issues then a magazine rack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

This is the midengine v8, $875 Chris right in Illinois

Hi, I'm searching "Insult to injury - insufficient title for 300SD" thread, from June.....so far, for sure you should have a bill of sale for sure.

At the very least write one out and have him sign it when he gives you the title.

I hate it when sellers put you in this situation. It gives you the buyer expensive headaches. Probably this can be straightened out eventually at the DMV, but be SURE you can contact the seller again if you need more paperwork our statements from him.

This might end up costing you more to get this sorted out, penalty fees.

Hope you got this in time
Good luck. I will look some more and see if I can add to this

Go to the search feature and type in "insult injury insufficient " to read the thread. That's what I am looking at now. Don't
know the rules for Illinois specifically, at least both you and the seller are in Illinois, which helps. The rules of the DMV of Illinois would apply. Evidently this is not a dealer, so no reassignment of title issue by dealer applies here

The title should be okay as long as no one filled in their name as the subsequent owner. The problem I see is that you don't have a bill of sale with the original title owner as the seller and you as the buyer if the DMV requires such a document. Ask the DMV if they'll take a two-step bill of sale.

Better yet, make the sale contingent on being able to register the car. Have the seller accompany you to the DMV.

The buyer/seller will probably have to pay sales tax and title the vehicle, then sign it over to you. (s)he won't like that. This might be able to be accomplished at your DMV with a title transfer and power of attorney on the buyer/seller's part / interest in the new title.

You will need to see a bill of sale from the titled owner to the buyer/seller. Be sure that you word the bill of sale from the buyer/seller to you with wording including "I certify that I am the legal owner of xxxxxx, free of leins and encumbrances" or the like.

I agree with sixto, it should be executed at the DMV.

- disclaimer - not a lawyer, this is not and should not be construed as legal advice.

Spellcheck is not a word. Spell Check is a word. You could also do Spell-Check.

not sarcasm

it wasnt sarcasm look at yourself both cars you been trying to buy lately have problems? maybe it is you When I'm in the midst of situations I have to determine my own part in it Maybe these are cars with problems because they are cheap because others shied away from the diffuculties Call that sarcasm if you will but it is 53 years of experience in dealing with life on lifes terms Meaning life just how it is not how I think it ought to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
