Exhaust in the car...300TD

While driving my wagon with the windows down, the car has exhaust coming in from somewhere. If the windows are up, no exhaust. The car was hit in left rear and fixed. The exhaust pipe off the muffler has been pinched a little and that pinch put a small crack in the bottom of tailpipe. I don't see how exhaust would swirl back from that far back. Could that be the source?

Also, in the past I came across a web site from a young kid that sold an entire exhaust system from the maifold back for the 123 chassis. Does anyone know what site I'm talking about? Thanks...

You'll want to check for any loose or cracked weatherstripping around rear door. Remove the rear side covers in the cargo area and inspect how well the damage was repaired. Check that the drain hole plugs are still in place in the rear floor. Another idea is to use a light around the outside of the car at the same time inspecting for light leaks from inside the car will help visually. Any holes, open seams etc. will draw exhaust through rear of car like a vacuum when windows are open. When the body is tight in the rear you won't smell the exhaust.
Hope this helps! -Tom

I would get the exhaust fixed. I have gaping holes in the rear of my TD, and I get no exhaust in the car. any exaust leaking from the underside of the car can be drawn in any number of places that aren't sealed properly.

I'd look at the exhaust manifold, hold a piece of paper around the outlets and see if theres any fumes escaping.

I have a similar issue and have just chocked it up to the larger low pressure area behind the car. Maybe its time for more research.....
