There are S-Class(350SD w140) diesels in the 1992-1994(I believe) model years, but these aren't recommended.

Also, There is an E320 cdi that is the current w211 chassis mid-size.

In a year or two, there will be R320, ML320 and GL-Class diesels. I also believe there is a V8 S-Class cdi, but not in the US.

**edit**

Are the Alabama built vehicles available currently? I just reread it, and it seems like theyre in production?

A W126 is a nice sturdy tank, but the engine does leave things to be desired. Fuel mileage being one. I also prefer the rack and pinion steering of the later models.

they are already available and the 320cdi has been replaced in the E class with a bluetec v6 model.

Yeah, I saw an ML320CDI on I-5 driving back home last Saturday. Brand new black one. From afar I was doubtful it was a Benz (it was dark and raining) because of the really long name badge...it's all on the left on the ML, including the CDI. Opened the window in the rain to listen to it for a bit, couldn't tell it was a diesel over the road noise at 65+ mph.

The E320 is really cool. I was driving home in my 2.5 and was checking this CDI out. When he went to accelerate you saw a brief puff of white with a faint hint of blue smoke and it took off. Unlike the blue cloud that eminates from mine. Diesel is making a comeback. Clark Howard this morning said BMW is going to have a diesel in the US too.

The autoweek issue from the autoshow at the beginning of the year mentioned a possible s320 CDI in the US. THe bluetec hybrid in that link is pretty cool!

E320CDI. Its not only a fine car, but a fine package with the CDI diesel.

I'm hoping Honda will come out with a diesel Ridgeline next year.

I saw an R 320 CDI at DFW airport last week. Didn't know they were available at present. It was white, not the black "hearse" special edition.
