How do they look different, I don't see any difference, do they not stick out from the car as much?

ya, they are thinner, and they don't stick out as farr.
notice the front bumper, the chrome is almost touching the grille. on the USA versions there is a large black plate separation.
I find it odd that this euro don't have square headlights... Us conversion?

seen one and test drove one... had a hard time coming out of a basement parking lot without any runoff....

That is still a euro headlight. Went to a lot of lower end models of the 123 bodies and was standard in earlier 123 models i think. The square ones were standard on the high end 280 models.

Nope, those are the other Euro lamps. I have a set of them on my wagon (from this car ) and they definitely light up the road.

FWIW, that car was a 4-speed manual. The interior was in rough shape but otherwise she looked good...no idea what year it was. I only spotted it that one time when walking back to the hotel from the tram stop.

Here's another Finnish 123...a gasser this time.
