123 wagon 3rd row seat
My wife is wanting a wagon (124 preferred but 123 will be acceptable) but we need the 3rd row seat. Can a 3rd row seat from a junk yard be placed in a non-3rd row wagon? This question is mainly directed at 123 wagons.
Thanks, Clint

Yes. The seat swap is easy, but it will be alot of work to install the shoulder seatbelts.
You also have about a 1:100,000 chance of finding any 300TD in a junkyard. You would be far better off to buy one that already has a 3rd seat. |

You can find the seats on ebay occationally. But like Forced said, it's though to find a wagon in a junkyard, and it's even harder to find a wagon with the third seat, and let a lot harder to find one in the right color.
Don't give up on looking though. You never know what you can find in a junkyard.

Take a look at some different junkyards. The one I go to all the time in northern RI has 4, 123 TD's. I don't remember any 124 ones, but there may be one. Two have blue interiors, one palomino, and the other I can't remember.

So that's where they are all going! I have never seen a TD in the junkyards in Oklahoma or Colorado.

There is a blue interior euro 300TD that has a 3rd row seat on Rt 1 where it crosses under Rt95 in Woodbridge VA. If you don't like the price today wait until tomorrow and ask someone else, each person takes a different WAG at parts prices.
I have a palomino 3rd row seat in my parts car that I'm considering installing in my wagon. I'm just not sure that it's worth the effort. -Tad

There was a TD at the Pull and Save for a while. Stupid me, I should have gotten the head and sls system off it.

I've put two third seats in wagons from junkyards. It is time consuming, but certainly worth it. There is one wagon in the yards here now, and last week there were two. Neither had third row seats.

One important note.....
My wagon has a 3rd row seat, and it doesn't appear to be original. I can tell 2 ways:
First, it is MB-Tex and my interior is leather. Second, and this is where I'm heading, no headrests on back seats. Without headrests on the wagon back seat, a child sitting in the 3rd row seat could have their neck snapped violently back in a collision. My 9 year old daughter loved to ride back there, but I got to thinking about it one day, and what a neck-snapper that would be. Something to think about.........

There is a place in MA that builds all the hardware for a kit to put one in and I think its like $500. http://www.jjproducts.net/jj_products_htm/products/Mercedes/StationWagon3rdSeat.html

IF you add the third row seat. ( I did it in my wagon from the second wagon I owned.) Make sure you install the second row headrests. The anchor kit can be purchased from the Dealer. It will have to come from Germany. Buy 3 headrests and install them. The pop rivet holes are already there, so it is an easy install for the receivers. Time consuming to peal back the cover and get set up but doable. I did my swap in one day.
Make sure you get the side panels for the shoulder harnesses. And the shoulder harness seat belts. All W123 wagons are ready to receive the 3rd seat kit. So no drilling etc. But make sure you get the seat belt hardware and side panels. Dave

Are the rear headrests (by this I mean the actual rest and the posts) different from the front?
