Blinkers and flasher lights
Just received a 1983 300sd turbo today the blinker and flasher lights are not working but the brake light and running lights are. Is there a switch or relay that could be bad. If so where is it located. Checked fuses in the fuse box all seem to be good none wer blown.

The lights go through the hazard switch and the flasher is located under the wood in the center consol. The usual culprits.

If the hazard switch is OK there may be another relay under the console and fwd of the shifter. There is in my 240Ds and it failed on my "85", leaving me scratching my head when the hazard switch tested out ok after my turn signals quit.

Let us know how you actually find things on your 1983 300SD... I presume this is a W126 chassis? Regards, |

The red hazard switch on the center console is a wire path for the turn signal/ flasher circuit. Under the center wood console just forward of the shift lever is the actual module that does the cycling of the light ( the flashing)
So. If the lights work but don't flash correctly. On both or either side, then it is the module under the wood trim. If one side does not come on at all or is screwing up is is the hazard switch that is on the center console. Turning on the hazard switch turns on BOTH sides of the turn circuit through the flasher so they "flash". Turning on the "turn signal" only uses one side of the 4 turn light installed in the car, left or right. Flasher, or the "turn signal relay" http://catalog.eautopartscatalog.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=1YQ0V8DMP1YQ0V8HLW&year=1982&make=MB&model=300-TDT-001&category=P&part=Turn+Signal+Relay Hazard switch http://catalog.eautopartscatalog.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=1YQ0V8DMP1YQ0V8HLW&year=1982&make=MB&model=300-TDT-001&category=P&part=Hazard+Flasher+Switch Dave |
Thanks Dave. You don't seem too hear of the relay going out much, I guess because its harder to spill your beverage on:D

Dave - you parts might be in error...

But these particular parts are the same for the W123 and W126. Dave |
blinkers
Checked the hazard lights today they started to work you could here a clicking sound behind the instrument cluster then clicking stopped and the flashers stopped working.

Ours was acting the same way...

In our case, the Hazard switch and the flasher are all together in one component, thus the ~$100 price tag. But luckily a friend I met on this FORUM [never personally] has the skills to take combined units completely apart and rebuild them ! Quite a meeting place we have here where MBz enthusiasts can come together and help one another! Regards, |
I'm having a similar problem but, these posts are still confusing me.
My hazards work fine but my turn signals don't. 84 300D T So is the flasher for the turn signals a different part? |

Mine turned out to be just the switch. Those relays are built to last a very long time.
