Blinkers and flasher lights

Just received a 1983 300sd turbo today the blinker and flasher lights are not working but the brake light and running lights are. Is there a switch or relay that could be bad. If so where is it located. Checked fuses in the fuse box all seem to be good none wer blown.

The lights go through the hazard switch and the flasher is located under the wood in the center consol. The usual culprits.

If the hazard switch is OK there may be another relay under the console and fwd of the shifter. There is in my 240Ds and it failed on my "85", leaving me scratching my head when the hazard switch tested out ok after my turn signals quit.

... shows the flasher for this YR/MODEL to be a "switch" and pictures it at this link:
http://img.eautopartscatalog.com/live/P303011834HEL.JPG
and gives details & price at:
http://catalog.eautopartscatalog.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=1WH11JXAQ1YQ0SRZGX&year=1983&make=MB&model=300-SD-002&category=All&part=Hazard+Flasher+Switch
Based upon having dealt with this same problem on our older 1980 models and facing a much higher cost for their combination flasher/turn signal switches [~$100], I would say that you have lucked out and that there is a separate flasher unit in your's and that it is most likely the problem... and I think you might find it nearby to the hazard flasher switch on the console.
Let us know how you actually find things on your 1983 300SD... I presume this is a W126 chassis?
Regards,

Regards,
When my flashers quit on a road trip I pulled into a MB shop and the owner showed my the relay under the console, which I had never heard of, Little black box 2x2x3+-" cost $40. Don't know if other MBs have this relay but I would think so.

The red hazard switch on the center console is a wire path for the turn signal/ flasher circuit. Under the center wood console just forward of the shift lever is the actual module that does the cycling of the light ( the flashing)

So. If the lights work but don't flash correctly. On both or either side, then it is the module under the wood trim. If one side does not come on at all or is screwing up is is the hazard switch that is on the center console.
Turning on the hazard switch turns on BOTH sides of the turn circuit through the flasher so they "flash". Turning on the "turn signal" only uses one side of the 4 turn light installed in the car, left or right.

Flasher, or the "turn signal relay"

Thanks Dave. You don't seem too hear of the relay going out much, I guess because its harder to spill your beverage on

Dave - your parts links above are for a 1982 300TD and "RDANI's" car in question is a 1983 300SD a W126 chassis vehicle I believe... I don't think these two models use the same parts, do they?

You are correct I did it for the W123.

But these particular parts are the same for the W123 and W126.

... the turnsignal would work one time and then NOT work but finally they quit altogether.

In our case, the Hazard switch and the flasher are all together in one component, thus the ~$100 price tag. But luckily a friend I met on this FORUM [never personally] has the skills to take combined units completely apart and rebuild them ! Quite a meeting place we have here where MBz enthusiasts can come together and help one another!

I'm having a similar problem but, these posts are still confusing me.
My hazards work fine but my turn signals don't. 84 300D T
So is the flasher for the turn signals a different part?

Did you check the relay under the console referred to above?

Mine turned out to be just the switch. Those relays are built to last a very long time.
