Thumbs up W123 weight?

I have an idea going and was curious what the weight of a 123 is with a full tank of fuel and one person of around 175lbs...

You need to be more specific. Not all W123's weigh the same. A 300D is over 300 lbs heavier than a 240D, for example.

Well how about round about figures. 3200lbs sound right for an average 123, regardless of the driveline?

The FSM says curb weight of a 240D is 3208 lbs, 300D is 3516 lbs, 230 is 3197 lbs, 280E is 3527 lbs, 280CE is 3505 lbs, 300CD is 3495 lbs, 300TD is 3780 lbs.

Somebody has installed a 5.0 v8 MB engine in a 123C and when swapping the engines, the diesel engine was heavier than the v8.

Subtract the maximum load capacity weight from the GVWR to give the curb weight of any of the older models.

Although not a W123, my 300SDL rang up 3960 lbs of weight without a spare wheel, no luggage, and tank 90% full when last weighed. The car had no people inside it. The tag says 3950 lbs. Scale was guaranteed 98% accuracy.

So, with me in it, and a spare wheel, figure almost 4200 lbs driving weight.

New vehicle curb weight is based on this:

E320 CDI from mercedes-uk

kerb Weight: 1750 kg

Figures according to Directive 92/21/EC, version 95/48/EC (kerb weight with fuel tank 90% full, driver, 68 kg, and luggage, 7 kg) for standard-specification vehicles. Optional extras and accessories will generally increase this figure and reduce the payload capacity accordingly.

My 300TD weighed 3440lbs with a full tank of fuel without me in it.
I have not weighed my 240 yet.

A stock 300D without driver should weigh ~3200lbs.

that sounds a bit light for a td. is it a euro?

or a non turbo?

i would expect close to 3700 for a td with the turbo engine.

and i agree that the aluminum v8 will weigh the same or less than a 300d turbo motor.

you will find it a tight fit at the wheel wells i believe. the 126s which came with the v8 have a wider front track and crossmember to allow for the v8. this wider crossmember was used or one similar on the 500e.

use of special ex headers will probably be sufficient to get clearance i think.

sounds like fun.

Standard off the shelf turbo usa model. Full tank of fuel, no driver. 3700 is closer to the gross weight, not the curb weight.

Got a cat to clean up my heads a bit too. Just need a donor car. I need to find out what the torque capacity of the four speed is from the 123s too.
