OK I've got a I.P

My I.P makes a ticking sound (300sd). I want to try a different one. Can anyone give a simple step by step to change it out. I've switched around injectors, purged, done the valves, tried a different rack dampener, checked the compression and danced around the fire naked. The car runs good, gets good milage, doesn't smoke too much, but... Idles like one cilinder is dead.. and ticks under a load . anyway I've got a pump from a known good runner and would sure like to hear from someone Jim

Others will chime in with directions Jimbo, but I can tell you they won't be simple...
Not a very enjoyable job.
What section of our fair country do you hail from?

Not to butt in, but he's gone for the day (He's my dad). We're from San Diego.
