'85 300TD back on form - switchover valve guilty!
All;
Just a quick note to express my appreciation for these forums, and those who contribute. For too long I've been chasing what I felt was sub-par performance in my 85 Cali-spec 300TD. When I first inherited the car, there was a noticeable surge when the car was on boost and the throttle was prodded. After a valve adjust at an indy, the car was not the same. Drives to Columbus, OH from Williamsburg, VA. on I-64 through W.V. had the car slowing and struggling to maintain 55 mph. Another valve adjust, checks/adjustment of the throttle linkage, replacement of a leaky primer pump and leaking fuel lines back at the tank failed to cure the problem. Last time I was under the hood I decided to check the banjo fittings and the lines leading from the manifold to the ALDA by way of the switchover valve. Lines were clear, but in the act of removing them, I noticed some soot fall from the bottom port on the swithover valve. Tried to blow through it, and NOTHING! Armed with a new valve and installed, and my car (Frau Bluecar) is back to her old self. Not sure I ever would have found the issue, nor persisted in hunting it down, if not for the forum and the folks here. Again, Thanks. r/ Dave |

I bypassed my overboost protection solenoid. But I have a boost guage so I can monitor my boost. One less thing to worry about. Plus when I removed it to get the fittings off only one of the bolts was holding it in place. Someone messed with it in the past.
