Source For Mercedes Key blanks

I'm looking for a source for a mercedes key blank (not cut). It appears that someone replaced the ignition and only had one key for it and I would like another key.

Or can a Mercedes cut me a key for it, if I give them the key?

Mine was shipped to me precut. I had to give them the VIN and the key was shipped to the dealer ready to use. They didnt do any cutting at my dealer.

I think any key that is not laser cut (started with W124 maybe?) can be made by any locksmith. They just won't come with that cool black rubber key topper like OEM MB keys have.

I have a non-MB OE key for my 80, made by a local locksmith.

Oh and I'm pretty sure MB won't cut you a key based on another key. They only cut keys from the VIN AFAIK, and even then all that work is shipped out to their depots (for Texas, it's in Dallas), not done by the dealership (as stated above).

If you need a dup. made from an existing key I think your only choice is an indy locksmith.

Then have a local key place cut it.

I was at Wolfsburg Parts in Mtn View on Monday (yes, they were open on Monday!). There was a non-laser key blank in a display case. The kind where half the plastic grip snaps over the other half to fasten to the shank.

I might have to go there today. I'll ask about the key blank. Or call them at 650 964-4144.

www.************************ has blanks as well.

Some locksmiths have a machine that will cut a security key. There's a locksmith by Valley Fair in Santa Clara that cut a key for my 95 S420. Didn't ask for proof of ownership

Many local locksmiths do not have the correct blanks. Mine cannot cut a "sidewinder", that came with my 126. Some key blanks available at http://*************** Good luck.

There was recently a thread that said that brass keys will put brass shavings in the tumblers of the lock cylinder and make it fail prematurely. Either get a new cylinder/key setup from Phil, or call the dealer and give them the VIN and they will get a new key that fits your existing lock cylinders.

wall mart has the key # 41 and 39 for most 300/240 D / TD ignition and replacement keys... or you can go to the dealer and get a NEW tumbler for the ignition and get it back to the correct vin, so you have again single key for both doors and ignition... about 75.00

I didn't know that. I wonder why the owner didn't do this in the first place. What do you need t get the new tumbler?

my dad works at MB dealer. I had to give my VIN and Registration to the dealership, and in about 3 days they mailed the key.

I have a blank key I bought online, but later learned you couldn't get anyone to cut it....

You can have it if you can figure out a way to get it cut...

Thumbs up

Why not fix the problem by replacing the ign with the proper one for the VIN?

I'm thinking of this. I also have to replace the ignition switch,I'm having a problem with blower not working and you have move the key around to get the blower to turn on.
