i have seen one of those in person. they are really lovely looking little machines. similar in size and flavor to a 34 ford. they are on my list. if circumstances were different i would bid on that one maybe.

Beautiful? Well it is a diesel.
Beauty is in the eyes of the looker. Doesn't look anywhere near as nice as my 1953 Mercury Coupe. It looks like Benz borrowed the exterior designs from Ford of 1934 and 35. Maybe 1936 Ford had a suicide front door, but even that was gone by 1937. Man that thing looks ancient for 1953. Compared to anything made in the USA in 1953 it's ancient. But it is kind of "cute".

i think you could really call all european cars from the 50's and 60's ancient by style compared to what we are used to here in the states,(old mg-a's,jag's,m-b's,austin's even bmw bikes had the same style as back in the 30's, up until the late 60's.

absolutely. same with british and italian mfgrs.
ferrari got his start right after the war on money saved up from making munitions for the axis. then converted his factory to building cars. the hand made bodies and chassis (and really most everything else) was possible because of the depressed postwar economy. i have always pondered that perhaps some of the craftsmen were possibly even engineers doing manual labor because there were no other options. i can also tell you that the solinoid on a 59 ferrari 250 is identical and interchangible with the solinoid on a mb diesel of the period. i suspect that is because the factory which made them was set up during ww2 by the germans. an interesting tidbit of history. tom w
