Scenic shots of my 240 at the Very Large Array

Took a drive to the Very Large Array in New Mexico today. Elevation is 7,000 feet. Had to include the Benz in some "action" shots. There are 27 dishes in a "Y" formation. Each branch of the "Y" is 13 miles long!!!

Yes, but she prefers to move things for "the other team"......
"Contact" is the first thing I thought about when I saw those arrays too. Obscure movie, and Matthew M. actually doesn't ruin it.....

The pics really don't do the site justice. Each dish is the size of a baseball diamond

Nothing like all that technology compared to my manual everything 240D!

Did anyone notice the resemblance between the Very Large Array and the Mercedes Benz logo?
Here seen on Google earth:

Greetings, aliens, on this planet we drive Benz..

Am I the only one to notice that in shot 1 car is empty. Then in the final shot Scott98 has now procured a "Babe" in the passenger seat!

Wow, that thing is HUGE!
is the set of dishes 13miles each leg, or the entire pathway? on the google map, the lines out from the dishes just keeps going and going. I wonder if they will ever fill all the lines with dishes?

Awesome! I want to take a trip out West sometime and check out the large open spaces.

How did the 240 do in the snow last week (some of which I see in the pics). Here in NY it is 50* and not a flake of snow yet.

It actually did really poorly. The back tires would just spin and spin and spin. I guess there is just very little weight back there compared to the front.

Each leg is 13 miles long!!! The dishes are set on rails and the whole configuration can be changed at any time. It takes about one or two weeks to reconfigure the whole site.
