im converting an 87 300td to run on vegetable oil and im wondering what the two additional hoses are that are coming out of the lift pump or just before the lift pump.
maybe they are some kind of loop?

Sitting on the engine mount arm behind the IP is a fuel thermostat. The small filter feeds into the fuel thermostat which under certain condition sends fuel through a loop heated by coolant from the cylinder head near the oil filter. Finally fuel gets to the lift pump. Under other conditions the thermostat bypasses the loop and send fuel directly to the lift pump.
