CI-4 vs. CJ-4 for old diesels?
Ok, I first was changing oil every 3000 miles with Mobil 1 5w40 and then it becomes hard to buy. I move to Rotella T 5w40 and just when I am settling in to it up comes CJ-4.
![]() ULSD and CJ-4, will I just be paying more for the oil or should I think about not changing to CJ-4 for our old Benzs? ![]()

ANY oil with a Cx-x rating is safe in our engines.

CI-4 is going to be around for a while. CJ-4 isn't acting as a complete replacement standard. The newer low-SAPS CJ-4 oils enjoy some new chemistry. Time will tell whether it's "better" or not.
The new CJ-4 oil takes a step closer to the Euro oils and MBz's new 229.51 quality standard. |
