Pictorial on the upper control arm replacement

Hi all,

I just finally finished up the upper contol arm replacement pictorial on our project 240d series. I actually did this almost 2 months ago, but I have been going through a huge amount of stress with family issues and its taken a huge toll on my energy.

enjoy!

I just put mine in.. easy as pie

Removing the right side was a PITA since the battery was in the way. So out it went and I had more room to work with to get the bolt. Plus a floor jack and a section of 2x4 to move the sway bar up slightly helps when reinstalling

I did these a while ago. My bushings weren't really bad at all but one of the ball joint boots was torn. I got the Bilstein ones... didn't know they were made in Turkey.

COOL! great DIY pictorial. Glad to know the kit you are selling is Febi
My TD UCA's are flopping around. I was thinking about replacing the bushings... but your price on the arms makes it a no brainer.

Just as an after thought and this may be different on 123 than 126. I had to shim up the ball joint/ spindle to suck it down and then remove shims and tighten to spec.

That is the most common - push down on front corner of car - creak

The Febi's for the 123 have a hex hole in the end of the ball joint post -- just made for putting a hex wrench in the end to prevent the ball from spinning when you are tightning down the nyloc nut. Mine at home has been waiting for the thaw.. tonight or tomorrow I get to tighten everything down and reassemble the car (I refuse to work outside in freezing weather if I have a choice).

Imagine my suprise when I went out to finally compete the UCA install. I couldn't figure out what hex wrench would fit those dang joints . That's because they don't have a hex hole in the end. I don't know what I was drinking that night, but I sure want some more, if only for the perfectly designed auto parts . Just didn't want anybody goin' out and buying that brand just cause of my misinfo.. buy them because you think they're better instead.
