Swapping an automatic into 190D 2.2 5-speed.
I think I'm going to be in a position to make a "double switch" of transmissions between 2 190D's. My current ride is an '84 190D 2.2 5 speed. It runs and drives fine.
I just won an auction for an '87 190D 2.5Turbo with a bad transmission (automatic). Right now, my plan is to take the 5-speed out of the 2.2 and put it into the 2.5T car. I have done this swap before, and it turned out great. (I wish that I had never sold that car). Then I'll put the automatic into the 2.2 car. The part I don't know about is the vacuum for the auto trans in the 2.2 car. I will either have the auto trans rebuilt or replaced before putting it into the 2.2 car. Was there something special about the IP's on the 2.2 with the automatic transmissions? (i.e. different between the automatics and the 5-speeds?)What is needed in order to get the vacuum signal correct for the operation of the auto trans? Any insight would be appreciated. SteveM.

The IP for an AT car has a modulating device on the side that varies vaccum based on throttle position or load or both.
I don't know if the modulating device will attach to an MT IP. Sixto 93 300SD 3.0 |

I'll check it out.
Within the next few weeks, I'll have both an AT car and an MT car to check this interchangeability. If I put the manual trans in the 2.5Turbo car, then I won't need the vacuum modulator. Maybe it will retrofit onto the 2.2 Injection Pump.
Or maybe not. SteveM.
