Very soon I'm going to be looking for a transmission for a W201 190D (either a 2.2 Diesel or 2.5Turbodiesel).

I am wondering if the W201's can/do share transmissions with the W124 cars. I know that the 5-speed tranny I retrofitted into another 190D 2.5T carried a 124-prefix part number. Since some of the W124's used the 2.5Turbo engine, I know that there is a greater possibility that they will interchange to the W201 chassis.

If the transmissions will work, that would greatly increase my potential to find a good used transmission for transplant/replacement into one or the other of my 190D's.

According to the interchange information on my local parts-yard's computer, the 300D 2.5turbo transmission is different from the 190D 2.5 transmission. Not sure what/why, but their information is that they don't interchange. Could be something simple like valve body or ??.
