Correct.

I'll attempt the sunroof deal.

That's what I thought. Can't help you, mind you, but at least that'll be clarified.

Good luck with the sunroof! Outside of a coat hanger with a hook in the end of it, I've got nothing.

One of my 79 300CD's has not been touched in four years, or more. The car just unlocked, and re-locked with no problem, when I sent my father out to the garage to test it for kicks. Why? Does my car have a different locking mechanism? Perhaps, not vac system, but mechanical intead. Is it possible, it's still maintaining vac. pressure after all these years? I know it's got the tumbler type locks on it, by the inner door handles, and not the pop-up type locks on it. Is there something different about my car?

do you mean the doors will manually lock, or when you lock the drivers door, the others lock, and unlock automatically?
if it's the latter I will be AMAZED...

I havent followed this... did you get in?
I locked myself out of my 240td 2 weeks ago (left key in ignition with engine running; that's what my locking system calls the self-close now position).
Anyway, this works with most vehicles w/o power windows... you just need you (and maybe a freind) to push inwards and downwards firmly on the window glass with the flat of your hands... I guarantee you that with most (older) cars you try this on, one or more of the mechanisms is gonna just let you ease the glass down with no drama, nothing broken, no sign of a forced entry and no tools/damage. Stealing cars is a natinal sport in England...

If it was me I'd have just cranked the sunroof open from in the trunk and reached in from there....seems simple.

I just got my hands on a W123 so I am learning all these interesting things about them....

Mine is cranky and doesn't like to start below freezing, took 20 seconds of cranking today at 24F outside. I suspect it needs a major valve adjustment since it has almost 0 blowby when running and is a STRONG engine when driving it. WAY faster than a W126...wow!

If we assume for arguments sake your father had the right car it is rare. I suspect a production varient for another country other than north america or europe originally. Almost has to be an electric solinoid locking system. You might want to run the vin # on the russian site. Who knows what will show.

I have seen a euro 300D that had mechanical door locks, Pretty rare for sure like SLS on a 240D. I cant imagine holding vacuum for four years, ah, the car

Probably related to those wierd MB odometers that accumulate miles just sitting in the garage

Yes, everything still locks and unlocks the way it would an should, as if I drove the car yesterday. All functions are working. After four years plus, of sitting untouched by anyone...Is this unusual?
As for the electric solenoid theory..the car has no battery in it, and if it did, I'm sure it would be long dead by now.

You mean you don't believe a 240D manual can pull a 11 second 0-60?
