Strange LED in 124 console (photo)
Our new-to-us 1987 300DT has a strange bi-colored LED in the console (see photo). I've never seen anything like this before and it isn't in the owner's manual. It never lights up and I suspect that it's part of an aftermarket alarm installed by a PO -- one that I'm gradually finding and removing. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

Yes! In a factory or dealer installed security system!

Thanks!
The owner's manual says something about a factory alarm (there's even an extra horn on the left inner fender near the ABS hydraulic unit) but a lot of the junk I removed had a somewhat cheesy appearance as regards both the parts and the installation. Didn't look factory. Perhaps the factory alarm failed and someone added the aftermarket unit?

Actually there have been a lot of dummies that never knew their W124 came with an alarm and then installed an aftermarket system. Speculating that the OE alarm must have failed is 99.9% fantasy and unscrupulous alarm installers is 99.9% likely.
Hard to live without a blinking light, it appears. You LED is not OE.
