cruise questions

Is the cruise amplifier (control unit) "diesel specific", in other words can another number control unit be substituted?

I spoke with GDL recently regarding that issue. They confirmed that a p/n from one of the gassers of the same vintage would function on the W126 ('86). Can't say that this would be a universal answer, but, it's got possibilities.
