John
what part of the country is he in?

Thanks for checking Jack. I'm in one piece and my place (and car) were missed by about 150 ft. The neighborhood is much worse for wear, but I think everyone is ok. I've never seen a force like that in my life. 2x4 sticking into the sides of peoples house, shingles stuck a few inches into the ground, trailers sitting on top of trucks. Everything was a missile. Everything.

Power could be a problem for days, several transformers on the ground, and a substation was blown out.

that's what got hit the worst. Short at Freret and vicinity are particularly hard hit. Westwego on the other side of the river was significantly damaged. What Katrina missed the tornado took a good crack at.

Bob, great to hear that you are all right!

Tornados definitely leave you awestruck. There is a tree, I can see from my home office windows, that still has a portion of my neighbors carport roof running through it from one we had here several years ago.

this is reminding me of when Hurricane Hugo went through charlotte back in 89... it must have spawned 100 tornadoes, we were digging out of that muck for 2 months!
power out for over a month in some parts of charlotte and surrounding counties! whiew! glad That is over for me!

Thanks for the offers and support y'all. Always glad to be part of the forum family . I'm fine, critical food is in a friends fridge/freezer (I just spent $100 at the grocery store on Saturday )

People in my neighborhood seem fine, no injuries and in good spirits. Lots of property damage and power lines down. General mess west of State St. now with parts of Tulane on backup power. Local mobilization of the neighborhood troops has been impressive to say the least.

i was in high school living in sc, just south of the nc border then. living way way out in the country, when hugo hit. we lived down a 2 mile dirt/gravel road. it took us 2 days to clear the road before any of the families could get into town. most people at that time were living in trailers....and surprisingly none of them were damaged. hugo was a scary night.

Holy Mackerel! According to the google map, that spot is about 2000 feet from my old house. I knew one landed near Riverbend, didn't know it was that close.

Too bad, that area didn't get too much water in the hurricane did it?
