Running cool in winter, how to fix?
 

Usually running cool isn't a problem here in Texas, but when it's 25F outside I'd like to hit operating temperature even if it is only to have the heater putting out full heat.
So, is running cool, 60C instead of 80C, normal? If so what are the usuall fixes?
Or is it a sign of a problem? If so what do I need to look at?

Blocking radiator air flow with pizza box lid works for me.

I had my 87 300DT started the other day when we had 10F, started no problem and I had it up to operating temp of 80F fairly quickly.

It mostly hits 75-80F on the highway, but if I slow down the temperature dips.

Replace the thermostat, if it's operating correctly the temperature will stay at 80C regardless of outside temperature. Mine will run at 80C in -5F temperatures.

Agree with Craig, the '82 did that, replaced t'stat, problem solved.

Keep it simple: put a peice of cardboard in front of the radiator like he said. Mine runs at 60, but cover the radiator and it will run at 80.

changing the stat isnt even hard, infact it might be eaiser then a pizza box

If your cooling system is working right, you won't need to block the radiator.

My temporary solution, a "winter front." If it was a little more matte it might blend in with the bumper rubbers.
I'm going to have to agree with the thermostat diagnosis. I'll order one when I have a couple more items to go in the box. Like whichever vacuum actuator is toast in the Heater-A/C.

My wagon barely gets above 100 in cold weather, and that is on a Fahrenheit temp guage! I have a thermostat coming. Soon I hope! ;)

you have an 85 wagon with a US markings gauge? I am guessing it has a chrome button on the dial...
must have been replaced from an older model.
