A Place to rebuild my Tranny In Denver.

I was wondering if there was a reputable place here in denver or the surroundings that could rebuild my tranny.

For lack of anything better to suggest, I would ask CVJ Axles. They might know of a place.

Try German Motors in Lakewood, 303.237.6262/6021. I don't know if they rebuild trannies, but they are a Mercedes-only shop and reputable. They may be able to point you in the right direction. Or I'd be willing to bet ForcedInduction knows a good shop.

Actually, I don't know. I'm the only person I will allow to fix my car.

You can try Star Tech Mercedes in Littleton. I know they have a great reputation but I don't know what services they offer.

Startech's in central Denver (I-25 and Santa Fe). Stu Ritter's old shop on south Inca might do it or know someone who would.

i'd like to be the only one who works on my cars but i am not from the area so i don't have the space to do it.

I was the one who replaced the engine on my Mazda, and if i could find the space here i would also try to do the rebuild on my tranny.

Yes..several of us have. It's doable but requires being very meticulous and clean. A detailed manual is critical and if you can find something that supplements the crappy pictures in the ATSG manual it's a big help.

A transmission holding fixture is also HIGHLY recommended otherwise taking tolerance measurements (on the order of 10ths of a mm) is going to be suspect.

I would rate the tranny a 9/10 on the DIY scale..just under rebuilding the bottom end of an MB diesel motor. That's subjective though as I've never attempted the latter.

Valve body rebuild gets an 11 on a scale of 10.

thanks for the suggestion but thy will not rebild one. they only replace with a factory reman. and the cost is $4000 for the tranny only.

The friend where the car is at now has a guy that rebuilds trannys and he is checking if he will do a mercedes. This guy has never had a tranny fail so this might be a more viable option.

Yikes!

Someone (Forced?)posted a few weeks ago that there were some 123's at the Pick and Pull in Aurora. Perhaps there's a transmission for you there. It only took me an hour or so to pull a manul tranny from a 123 there since the cars are high up on rims, making the job pretty easy.

$4000?

I agree with Kerry, if you feel that you can remove the tranny yourself, Pull-N-Save is the best option. http://www.pullnsave.com/
