97 E300D $400 turn signal flasher
The problem is: it used to be that people who loved machines built cars---now the people who build cars love money:fork_off:
I have a 97 E300D. The turn sigs quit flashing. My two older MB's, designed buy car people instead of book keepers, have flashers. Now the flasher is built into a $400 module. Does anyone have the the wiring diagram for this module. MB# 210 820 39 26. It is in the box in front of the passenger window under the hood (fancy alminum locking clasp and 60-70 pins on side connector). I have a 160 IQ, a test meter and soldering iron. I would love fix it to tell the new AMG (American Motors of Germany) to stick their $400 module up their fat corporate ass.:fork_off: |

The mechanics up at Charlotte Star swear that MB didn't make a decent car since '85 up until this year!! Good luck with the finding of that schematic. I tried in vain to find a schematic for my '83 300d cruise control amplifier.
If all else fails, ebay it! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TEMIC-Computer-Mercedes-Benz-E420-1996-1997-2108203926_W0QQitemZ280000112813QQihZ018QQcategoryZ33596QQcmdZViewItem

I would say probably 1990. They probably don't like the computer crap.

You can get parts at Pull-a-part in Charlotte for older MB's. There are several amps on the 83-88's that are there. If you have hand tools and don't mind grease, the parts are very cheap.

I think they were mainly referring to the transmission first, and the engine second. Not sure if it pertained to the computerization, or just build quality; I suspect the latter.
Computer haters or not, I will take their word for what it's worth. Except for that Joekid, they're a pretty knowledgeable bunch (and fair, too).

Wow, I never thought about going up to Pull-A-Part. Wonder what they'd charge? I love getting down amongst the dirt and grease! How can one not love being dirty, and own a '83 diesel?! Accessing/removing the CC Amp. is super easy, as it's right beside the steering column. Thanks for the idea!

Could be, I have an 85 300CD and a 90 350SDL. Both those seem fine except things I heard about 350 engine scare me

pull-a-part is a junk yard on N. Tryon just off the I-85 to 29 exit. You take your own tools. It costs a dollar to get in, you grab one of their wheelbarrows, pull your own parts and pay on the way out. I go about once every week week or so. They replace the cars all the time as they get picked over. Ususally have 10-15 old (78-88) mb's there all the time. I think they charged me 10-15 for an amp I got there 3 mos ago.

Nice, Thanks man!! I'll definitely make it a point to check 'em out!
(Lucky you with the coupe, and an '85 too!) Care to look at my post regarding 3/4 tranny flare? I need help badly. Thanks.

Matt,
I'm a noob. What exactly does that mean? I mean, a '97 E300D is a '97 E300D right? ------Or so I thought. How many different versions of a model are out there? And how can one check to see if the versions are the same apart from the model #? You maybe talking about some sort of bios flash of the chip?

Pretty much, Mojool. It's coded with the Star diagnostic system or the HHT (Hand-Held tool). If it's out of a USA '97 and you have a USA '97, it might work. But it might not.
For example, that module (known as N10-1) needs to know if it must actuate the auxiliary fan control module. If exactly one of these cars (yours and the donor) use different parts in this circuit, your fan won't work without version coding the N10-1. |
