Radiator Cap Pressure Question

My radiator cap bottom seal had split off from the cap and was permanently stuck to the radiator neck itself. So I bought a new cap from the dealer today. They only had one cap for a 240D listed but I see that it's rated 120 instead of 100 which is what the old one with the bad seal was rated as. Will this result in damage if I drive the car with the 120 cap instead of finding another 100? Although where I'd get one from I dont know if the 120 type is the only one available now. My concern is the red warning lable saying "use only cover with labeled 100" that's stuck to the fan shroud.

- Peter.

According to Fastlane the 1.2 bar cap has been superseded by the 1.4 bar cap so I imagine the warning is irrelevant. Fastlane still sells 1.2 bar caps. $8 plus shipping.

I don't know if 100 = 1.2 bar but an on-line store that lists MB part numbers says the original 123 501 02 15 is rated at 1.2 bar.

Latest cap = 1.4bar.

There will be no damage from running a 100, 120 OR 140 mbar cap. The only reason MB does not produce the 100 or 120 any more is because later models use the 140. Since they can be exchanged, it's cheaper to produce 1 common item instead of 3.

Running the cooling system at 20.3psi instead of 14.5psi will also help it stay cooler for longer by raising the fluids boiling point.

Thanks for the info. The original cap I replaced which was rated as 100, had a part number of 123 501 00 15. I guess if Mercedes is happy with the updated cap 123 501 02 15 at 120, then I'll stick with that.
