Where do I even START looking?
Weird things happening...
Conditions: 1. The drivers door is open, thus producing a constant buzzer noise whenever the ignition is unlocked but off, to remind me not to close my keys in the car. 2. The key has been turned to the #2 position, causing the door-open buzzer to STOP once the seat belt signal ends. 3. Once I've let all the buzzes stop....... if I stomp on the brake hard nothing happens. If I just GENTLY press the brake, just down a few millimeters - like just down to the point at which the brake light circuit is turned on.... the buzzer goes "eek" and stops. If I do this repeatedly, each "eek" gets a little more formidible, until finally I can make the buzzer buzz just by pressing gently on the brake pedal. Is this a fuse going out? Wires crossed up somewhere? Where do I even start diagnosing it? |

It's not a fuse "going out". A fuse is either good or no good. It sounds like a possible wire problem at your ign. switch or the switch itself.

Check your ground straps for clean contacts and tightness as well. Sounds like the buzzer circuit may be being used as ground.

Thats my guess.
.
Hello Everyone My guess is a bad ground. I would check the large engine ground strap first. Take a look at the bowden cable, if it looks melted you definatly have a bad ground. Trudging the road of happy destiny. RichC

I know fuses don't "go out", I guess I meant that if it had burned in two but was still in position to where it vibrated back together and made spontaneous contact or something... I had one do that before, it was burned but just barely, so every time I hit the brakes the overhead light surged for about a week, then that fuse went out, and I replaced it and the weird behavior stopped.
Incidentally... where IS the engine ground strap? I've been under there before but didn't know what to look for. |
