After some research, it seems like the 300SD had far fewer "sensors", "relays", and "troublesome" items that may go bad than the SE does. Seems like there are so many more things on the SE that can go wrong when comparing to the SD.

Just how much more "complex" is the engine electrical on the 380SE compared to the 300SD, or is it my imagination.

Seems like another reason I would want a SD over an SE, even though I am told that my electrical system (engine and otherwise) are in perfect order (so far).

The SD is way less troublesome than and gas version such as the SE/SEL I can guarantee you that. However, you will lose the refinement and power of a gas version compared to the diesels, mostly in city driving.

The CIS system is pretty simple to me. If you're going to step to a Diesel, I'd go to an SDL. The extra power of the 603 over the 617 is nice.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have driven a few SD's before (test drives) and found the power to be as decent as my SE. Mine needs major tuning though.
