Making Valve Adjustment Wrenches

I'm getting help in making these wrenches like Phil did. I work for a MFG company, and the guy making them for me is going to do a black iron and labor cost for me.

I bought two 14mm wrenches and a 30mm socket for $18. Now if the numbers are good, how many people would be interested in buying some of these? You could even provide your own 14mm wrenches and 30 mm socket and then be out only labor and black iron costs.

I'll post the cost info and pics when the wrenches are finished.

I'd be interested in the wrenches.

Maybe if it was just too good a price to pass up. I don't think its that hard to do an adjustment with just straight wrenches and channel locks but I'd go for it if its a good deal. I've certainly got enough cars to justify the cost.

What's the 30mm socket for? On my 300td, the crank nut is 27mm.

30mm socket is the size for the valve spring retainer. At least it is on my 83 300sd. When I made mine I used a 1/4 deep section of the socket and brazed that to 1/8 thick flat stock. When you are making this wrench the opening that you need to cut in the end needs to be large enough to fit around the valve assembly. I cut a 20mm wide opening and then made a larger hole in the center.

The guy working on this with me is out of town. He's one of our senior design engineers. It may be next week before the wrenches are made.

He may use stainless steel instead of black iron for the hand grips.

I just added some dimensions for the valve spring retainer wrench to the info that I posted about this before. When I made the adjusting wrenches I didn't need to grind down the thickness because the wrenches were already thin enough.

I'm interested, depending on the price.

Looking forward to hearing more about them.

I have a set of small bent wrenches, but they do not work that great. Would love a better set at a decent price. I'm like other folks, waiting on the numbers......

You will probably be able to get 3 or 4 spring retainer wrenches from 1 socket as you doen't want it to be very deep. I cut no more than 1/4 inch off the end of the scocket so I still have most of the socket left for other uses.

Let us know what the cost and expected delivery time will be. I'd be interested if you get them made in the next 30 days or so.
