606 Delivery Valve seal
95 e300d 182,000. Just drove back into the garage after my test run. No leaks! At least, none so far. Rented the tool from Paul Drayton on this forum. JohnHef provided lots of guidance. There have been lots of how-tos on this forum, so I'll just add my comments.
1. Removing the intake on the passenger side is a pain. You really need to muscle it off. 2. I replaced fuel supply hose and hose clamps while I was there. 3. Left the belly pan on so when fuel spilled, I could catch it under the drain hole in the belly pan. 4. I strongly suggest using a crowfoot flare nut wrench. Regular flare nut wrenches aren't that easy to use - especially with the glow plug wire housing smack in the way. 5. Use a good torque wrench and don't overtighten steel bolts in aluminum head. I tightened most to around 11 or 12 nm. 6. There are so many torx bolts holding the intake on, they don't need to be super tight. 7. There must be a tool to remove the throttle linkages. 8. Replace any leaky fuel pipes while your in there. 9. Hand tighten everything as far as you can. Don't risk cross threading. Wiggle the fuel lines while you are tightening and you won't have any problems. So far so good. No leaks. I followed the torque sequence as specified by MB and everything went well. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I know this isn't a big deal to a lot of the pros on this forum, but I'm a tie guy and make my living in a library. Deferring to those more knowledgable comes in handy and can teach you something. I'm flyign high right now because this was a huge job for me. Took me about 5 straight hours. Whoo hoo. Thanks guys. |
