Interesting thread. I have 5 Bosios waiting in the wings that my PO gave me when I bought the car.
Where can I get the proper Bosch nozzles?

I'm looking at an electric heater for the gas tank that will be powered by a small solar panel on the parcel shelf. I may also insulate the gas tank.
Sorry ,I don't mean to rain on your parade but the parcel shelf is not big enough for a collector to give you enough power to run a heater. Lets say you want to install a 300 watt heater, you would need on the bare minimum 9 sq.ft.of panel to power the heater. About the size of your car roof. Coolant heat is the most compact and cost efficient. Also a heated fuel pickup line is needed, you don't want to heat the tank much more than say 100F, to prevent polymerization of the oil ( do not use steel or copper , chemical reaction takes place causing polymerization) Stainless , aluminum or plastic are the best. Just my 2 cents

what seems to be working very well for me so far is a coolant heat exchanger just before the clear filter, an electric fuel filter heater that only runs for the first couple of minutes after startup (basically until the coolant heat exchanger is working), and injector line heaters. i don't have a way to measure the vegoil temp at the injectors, but the little heat exchanger before the filter (arctic fox 'trendsetter') is heating the oil to close to 140F with ambient temp of 85F. the biggest difference, by far, has been upgrading the glow system with the duratherm system. smokeless starts, and smooth idle when cold. i now have around 2500 miles on the bosios but haven't had time to pull one for visual inspection as i'd planned. but operationally, the car is still running like a scalded cat...

I have a supply of OEM French Bosch injector nozzles in their OEM containers + original boxes that held 10 containers. Given the alternatives, I know their value and have held on to them. IF (and I repeat, IF) you could get them from the dealer (instead of the Indian nozzles) the list price would be around $60 each, which is what they get for Indians.
I may have time to put some of them up on EBay tomorrow - there's a 25-cent special on auction listings. I'd also take orders here by PM. Price will be $50 each. Well worth that to fix the injectors to OEM quality one time and be done with it for another 300K miles or so. Ken300D Carfax is $25 for 30 days. Autocheck is the same price for 60 days.

Here's a question........
Has anybody done back-to-back tests with NEW GERMAN made Bosch nozzles that were Pop & spray tested, then done the same with Bosio's? Maybe the "awesome power and takeoff" that everyone's raving about is just because any new nozzle is better than one with 250K miles on it..........

The dealer sold me the "made in India ones, and then the "part time deisel guy, who rebuilt them said he could've gotten the real German ones ( for less btw). These weren't reman. Any I told him to go ahead and use the India ones, but to check them carefully.
Wish I had kept it 100% original content. |

I am sending the nozzle that got screwed up after 5000 miles to the Bosio buy and I'll let youse all know what he says.
But that is a good question - where can I buy the proper French BOsch nozzles? Or can I get Elsbett WVO nozzles by themselves?

Truth, making heat from elctricity is always grossly inefficient.
Mark, btw, this guy Dan ( Accurate Diesel), really seems to know his stuff. He's P/T only, a full time government employee like you! $10 a pop for an injector rebuild. The "certified Bosch" guys in town wanted $70!!! Kinda wish I had bougth your vintage, this one is a PITA to get to anything, esp fuel lines! |

I second that question and will ask it again.
WHERE CAN YOU GET REAL FRENCH OR GERMAN BOSCH TIPS IN A BALANCED SET OF INJECTORS??? I have been researching the best injectors and everone agrees that this is the best set up, but who can build and balance a set that can be trusted to be done right, with the good parts? |

italian made Bosch nozzles are available from Merlindiesel.com in the UK for about $15 each, plus shipping.
EDIT: The Bosio supplier said the injector seemed gummed up, so it was my fuel. I'm not sure I agree. I'm sure all VWO mercs don't have gummed up injectors. If they did, surely we'd know about it? I use injector cleaner in each tank full. SO now I'm not sure what to do - get Italian Bosch's or use the Bosio's in my wife's 92 300D (which I might convert to run 50% WVO single tank.) Alastair / H.C.II- any comment on the quality of the Italian Bosch nozzles from Merlin Diesel? Did you know they were Italian?

All the nozzles Ive had recently from Merlin-Diesel have been made by DELPHI (Lucas/CAV) and made in France--These I have found to be excellent... Ive not seen any Bosch Italia nozzles -Ever- so cant comment... A friend has had issues with Bosch India nozzles, of the DLLA type used in Direct-Injection engines but these are totally different to the M.B DNOSD types. With regards to the Bosio nozzle...I havent seen any yet over here in the U.K. However regarding the 'pre-injection' central hole... This was only on the nozzle type DNOSD240/A What is Important with Diesel-Nozzles is the Part-Number.... They are ALL completely different and will seriously affect performance if the wrong Number is used.... ![]() What Number Bosio Nozzles are you guys using in your M.B's....? --Maybe the Bosio Supplier is a Boso and giving you all the wrong type-number... The Earlier DNOSD220 for the OM-615 and early 616 was of a solid pintle construction without side-cut.--Prone to be 'noisy' according to what Ive found out Some early OM's used the DNOSD1510 apparently, Another 'Noisy' and probably well obsolete nozzle-Italian VM engines used these and are not known for quiet operation! The Later OM-616 and 617 N/A Car applications used the DNOSD240/A (With central pintle-hole) Manuals recommend retrofitting the '240 in earlier OM engines if 'Diesel-Knock' is objectionable Good nozzle on veggy-oil The OM601/2 series had the DNOSD261 With side-cut pintle.. '261 were also used in the OM-617, where its fitted to the 4X4 'G' Wagen.--These work well, Very quiet and clean with veggy-oil. Slight increase in low-end torque Ive found. Set at 115 Bar for N/A engines. Never seen a DNOSD265 fitted to an M.B.---Thats an old VW 1600 Golf/Rabbit Nozzle according to my data!--But who knows what they used in overseas applications.... ![]()

I contacted him now to see what he had - he says those nozzles are for 616 617 601/2/3 - but those engines use different nozzles. What did he send you ? DN0SD240 or the 265?
