Has charge of freon, compressor runs, kicks in and out but blows hot air except every so often it will go cold for a little while. Could this be the infamous mono-valve causing the problem???

check all of your fuses..I think its 9 that can do that under the right conditions. Other than that, check all of your vacuum lines... I think that there are some post from last years summer that have a lot of A/C questions posed, and answered.
