the odometer and trip odometer in my 84 300sd stopped working a week or so ago. this morning i noticed it was again recording mileage. and appears to be accurate. love this self repair feature. and i guess my fuel mileage will improve!!!!

Give it a chance to get to another XX9.9 - it will stop again there eventually.

Thats how it all starts. It will quit once it a great while. But pretty soon it will stop anytime it hits xx9.9 like stated above. They tend to have a hard time when they have to turn over the next digit.

NOTE: Don't reset your trip while moving you will definetly kill the odometer. The odometer is mechanical and when when you reset it while moving you bind the gears up and shorted the odometers life.

Visit Diesel Giants website he has a DIY odometer repair. Pretty easy fix if you are carefull.

My trip meter halts at x9.9 Never gets past 99.9. I have to reset it while moving, cause if I do not, It will not start counting what little it does.

The odo works fine and is accurate. There is a speedo/mile marker check along 34, in between Greenville and Quinlan TX.

A tiny bit of red locktite fixes is. The zinc gear at the end of the shaft beside the 1 wheel slips and causes the odo to stop. If only the trip odometer stops, it's the drive gear for that assembly (driven off the zinc gear) and I'm not sure what to do about it, I need to fix the one in the TE someday. Main odo works fine.

Setting it while running causes the gears to stop so long as you have the reset button pushed in, and will eventually cause the zinc gear to slide.

that's silly, of course you could stop before you get to 99.9, I would stop before I got to 89... that's just me though. reset the odo before you start the car, or stop every 85 or so miles to reset it.

That would work if the thing would start counting again. It varies on when it stops. Except for 009.9. Anytime between 019.9 to 099.9 is a crap shoot.

I wish DG's site showed in detail the repair of a SD odo... the 123 odo he uses is nothing like a SD... rassin frassin frick frack....
