Converted a Power Sunroof to Manual

My younger son drove down from his college today to do his laundry, fill up his tank on biodiesel, and hopefully have me fix his sunroof. I decided that this $200 240 would be a good candidate for trying to convert to a manual sliding roof. I already had a donor sunroof from a td. The conversion took about two hours and works great. There is no need to remove the headliner either. You dont even need the whole sunroof, just the parts that are different on the manual one and this include two rubber pieces screwed onto the opening that are different as well. You will have to fabricate two small parts of light gauge steel that are welded on the td, which I chose to rivet (didnt want to catch the headliner on fire). If you had a td parts car you could cut these pieces off said donor car and not have to fabricate them as I did. There is a point of know return on this job, when you reach in and intentionally break off the tube that the cable ran through. You cant leave it there because it is in the way.
If I can get Andy to help me I'll post a few pictures to help explain the process.

manual sunroof

When you get two cars with the different sunroofs side by side it is pretty easy to see whats differnent. I did a search on doing this but could'nt find anyone who had. I even found a thread where somone thought you had to pull the windshield.

Everything is easy if you know how to do it

Bruce; Since the sunroof on my 300D has been non electric for the last 1.5 yrs pictures & details would be much appreciated.
You really should write a manual for this & ebay it. Most good MB mechanics I've asked won't go near fixing an old sunroof.

MIne is manual now but won't close in the back to seal up.

I guess I will be sure and remove the manual sunroof from Scar before I have him hauled off. My wagon and 240 both already have manual, so I'll save it for somebody.
I sure prefer the manual......
