indicator question

On a 300D, there is an oil indicator light, but I am not sure if it indicates low oil level, or high oil temp. Anyone know for sure? The oil pressure is fine, but the light comes on once in a while.

When does the light come on? During hard braking or accelration? I had an Olds that did that. Oil level was fine, good pressure, but the sensor was placed in an area sensative to extreme braking/acceleration. Hard moves affected the oil level at that sensor.

I was noticing it around 75mmph, when I would let off the gas for the most part, it does seem to be something along the lines of the oil level sensor being in a bad place, but it just started doing it. I checked the oil, it is just above the min line. I just want to be sure the oil isnt getting too hot.

The light indicates oil pressure. High oil temp. would also show up as high coolant temp. When does the light come on? At idle ? The oil pressure sensor could be suspect. I would take out the oil pressure sensor and put in a gauge to get a read on the actual oil pressure. just my .02

Add oil to bing it up to about full or full. Then see what happens. Oil level at the min mark makes sense, letting off the go pedal makes the oil shift foward a bit, lowering the level at the sensor.
