Exclamation TLC issues on new CD

Finally got the 82 300CD registered & plates today.

Tomorrow AM I take her to a local shop to have 4 new belts installed.
( I started her up 2 days ago & PS belt & 1 of the Alternator belts disintegrated..)
Also will be the first time I get to see the underside up on a lift.

I took a short drive tonight to put in some fresh Dino. ( Crap ! 297./gal.)

Aside from a few cosmetics, these are the issues that I found need attention;
1- sunroof has no power

2- DR window real slow - PF window also slow - PR window no power.

3- needs a new rear dome light & hopefully bulbs in the F dome lite...

4- Hood pull handle has been replaced with a wire hanger...

5- All dash lights are out. also on the ACC unit ...

6- A little bit of a hard shift fron neutral to 1st & reverse....

7 - glove box pops open - maybe a new spring in the lock..

ANy suggestions on #'s 1 - 2 or 6 are appreciated..!

AA

I'd replace that flex hose with the correct u-tube intake.

I also see white paint splatters on the headlight covers.

Thanks..

What is the flex hose ? / U-tube intake?

There are a few spots of a white house paint drips on the front end. I will get to those asap. Actually the ones on the headlights can stay as I have 2 w123 sets of Euro lights coming over from Europe in about a week or so.

There was also several drips of some glue around the car that I already removed carefully with some acetone....

Its the tube that connects the air filter housing with the turbo. Somebody replaced the stock tube with a cheap-o flex tube. Looks like its taped in place.

Compare yours with what it should look like.

huh... Got it . Good eyes. It is on the list.

Now do you have any ideas what may be possible issues on the slow windows?

Slow windows can be:

Weak motors (as they age they get moisture in them/corrode/move slower)
Lack of Lube on the Regulator - lube the regulator gears and slides
Excessive friction on window seal - lube the seal the glass slides between with graphite
Low voltage in car? - Probably not the cause, but check the car's voltage when running....if its not charging right you may not be getting much juice to the windows.

Yes more Pics!

Yeah his vacuum is plugged off almost like mine with the broken nipples. As we(winmutt) have talked about I still need help in the vac dept Hi res digital images will go along way for a lot of us dummies. Maybe someone has a photo of stock set up in working condition. I'm thinkin there is a difference in the CD and the D system. But I'm probably wrong about that TOO.

I don't mind the parts costs. That is why I bought this car. (we all know that part ...) I got a good price - no rust to speak of - fix it up and drive it for another 25 years......

btw this is what I am installing in the CD after I have the basics taken care of. It is not too flashy and good deal;

sunroof

Sunroof no power? Have you tested for voltage at the switch in dash or connector at motor in trunk?

Easiest fix, hopefully, is the replace the fuse for the sunroof with a known good or new one. Make sure you polish/rough up the seat for the fuse on the fuse box with some fine emery cloth for good contact.

I have a spare motor if it turns out you need one.

Plenty of posts here for troubleshooting tips.

The upper radiator hose is flexed looking because its the wrong one, someone took generic radiator hosing and fit it in there. I'd order the right one for the car, they're cheap and it would be less prone to failure. Also, it looks like the majority of the vac system has been disconnected...yikes!

Yeah. You are all right.

I had all 4 belts replaced this AM by my tire guy I use who is not too far from home.
2 hours later 2 of his guys completed the job. & I did the 1st daytime drive in her.

down the street from the tire guy, I find A Romanian merc shop, the guy worked on benzes in Germany, and has good references.

I am gong to bring him my 300D to check out what ails the transmission.
I asked him if he was good with trannies and he said he just finished 3 of them last week.

So I plan on having him look over all the hoses including the vac system and replace the Ford parts with proper MB ones. There is also green AF in the radiator so while he's at it I'll get hoses a flush and a new thermostat.

He also gets his crack at the windows & SR, as he also said that it could just be lubing or possibly replacing somethings...

I did get a good feel for this guy , and his "neighbors " said he is a good guy.

For rme today I am taking off the tires and checking the brake pads / rotors, and anything else I see.
I did see her up on the lift today and it looks pretty clean & rust free.

There are 4 matching MIchelins with about 85% tread left..............

but the tires are from 1997 , and cracking so this car has been sitting.

The lack of dash and climate control lights could be as simple as rotating the reostat knob on the face of the speedo cluster. This same knob is depressed to reset the tripometer or turned left/right to dim/brighten the dash illumination. They tend to corrode and no longer pass current. Try rotating it 4 or 5 times back and forth to see if illumination returns.
