Okay, guys, history lesson.

It's not a Honda Civic. We had the first ('73) in the family brand new, the car in question started life as a Honda 600, before the CVCC technology came out. It had an upright 2-cylinder air cooled engine, and a funky shift lever that poked out of the dash.

The CVCC as tinny as it was, was Honda's first serious car and a quantum jump ahead of the 600.
