Hi,
I have posted earlier on the Tech Help section. No one has posted a response yet. The car was broken in to. Now, I need to remove the damaged ignition cylinder, to attempt to DRIVE the car to a shop for a friend of my wife. The switch was damaged, and she said that she can NOT fit the key into the damaged unit. I am thinking that I MAY be able to PERSUADE the original factory key back into the damaged tumbler assembly.....HOWEVER, I MAY not be able to even do this, let alone getting the tumbler assy to turn. Please see my post in TECH HELP>>>> Any POSITIVE responsed will be welcomed either here or there. Best wishes always, Spo out ![]() |

Dolly or tow it to the shop.
The thief has wrecked the internal tumbler mechanicals. Even if you get the OEM key back in, there is a high risk that it will not work or come back out. This will make repair/replacement harder = more money. Depending upon year model, it may be cheaper to get a used column from a junk yard and swap it out as a unit. Review labor rates, towing and used part cost before decision. Hmmm. Find her a 240D cheap and scrap the Honda. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks for the response!
whunter,
Thanx for the response. The year is 1994 for the Accord. If she must swap out the entire steering column due to the savages, what a PIA! I would think that there SHOULD be some way to just remove the tumbler mechanism....I do NOT know how badly the savages have damaged the keyway.....however, since they were unable to STEAL the car, they gave it a real good SCRATCH down the side! BASTARDS! Oh well, I guess that she should get AAA to tow to her local mechanic in JP, which is adjacent to (a part of ) Boston. I guess that I could locate her a complete column from a boneyard......However, locating one complete with a KEY may be difficult! Thanx again, Spo out ![]() |
