Need to Indentify a motor part on 116 240D.
behind the injector pump, actually attached to it,towards the firewall, is that a vacuum pump? I know the vacuum line that kills the motor is attached to the end of this. What I am getting at, on top of this piece, there is a nipple sticking out towards the fender. Is this supposed to have a vacuum hose attached to it going somewhere?
thanks, Jim

A picture would help.
No such thing as a 116 240D. A 115 240D has a mechanical shutoff, not vacuum.

Not sure, but I think he might be harvesting some junkyard parts.

My mistake, yep I was getting the numbers confused with the ones I was going to look at in the junkyard. This is my car the 1979 240 D which is the 123.

The only thing between the injection pump and the firewall is the oil filter housing...looks like a big cylinder.

Is it in this pic? The metal one or the plastic one? http://www.gtmotorworks.com/images/fuelCellInstall/IMG_0966.jpg
Metal one is the ALDA, plastic is the vacuum regulator for the tranny

The ALDA adjusts fuel delivery based on turbo boost. The hose should lead to the intake manifold. Did they make a turbo 240D?

Dont think so, at least mine is not. So that is just a unused nipple?

On both my 80 and 82 240's, if you are talking about the metal diaphragm on the top of the IP on the oil filter end of the IP, it is vented to open air. If you are referring to the metal one on the back end side of the IP between pump and filter, that one is the shutoff (brown vac line), if you have a white plastic one on the IP by the top metal one, that is part of the auto trans control system. 240's were not made with turbos factory, and do not even have ALDA's.

Yes. They are all like that on 240's... That is also an altitude compensator of some sort, similar to an alda, but it isn't dealing with turbo boost.....

So, it is just some sort of vent tube, correct? I was looking for a vac hose the po might have left off or taken off. Guess I was hoping that might be part of my rough idle, missing out problem. I imagine if I take the injectors out and have them checked and set, that will proably correct the problem. Dont know when I will do that, I would have to take them 60 miles to find a shop..I will probably keep looking for a used set somewhere, then send them in to get them repaired, while I keep driving mine. Thanks for all the responses!
Jim
