When at idle, my 123 shakes so much I think my teeth are coming loose. Is it time for new engine shocks & mounts? Is this easy to do? Thank you

Engine mounts are often the culprit, and I've heard that the engine shocks are primarily to absorb the kickback when shutting the engine down. It's possible also that your rack dampener screw on the aft end of the injection pump should be adjusted inward.

Shutting off a diesel engine is one of the great pleasures of life. Especially large truck engines. Hearing them sputter and shake to a halt is almost as beautiful as the sound of them starting up.

i had my engine mounts changed (1991 300D, 115K) about 1 yr ago, and the difference was unbelievable. The car used to shake a LOT while idling, to the point that i would shift to neutral and touch the gas petal to stop the shaking, when I had other people in the car because it was embarrassing.
Now is as smooth as any MB should be .. |

Thanks all. Athan01, I've had to shift into N as well.
Has anyone put in engine mounts themselves? Can it be done without taking the engine out (pardon my newbie stupidity)? |

Engine removal not necessary
Greetings,
To remove your rubber engine mounts use a floor jack and a suitable piece of wood 2x6 or larger to jack up the oil pan, must go all the way across pan for weight distribution. Loosen up and remove the metric screws one under the mount and two on top. Slowly jack up engine to just give you clearance to remove the old mount and install the new. Get the upper screws started before lowering the engine back down onto the mount, saves on screwing up the threads because of misalignments. After the two upper screws are in, slowly lower the engine until you can start threading in the lower bolt, do so at this time before releasing the engine load onto the mount, it will shift slightly otherwise and the bolt will not align correctly. Tighten everything up to torque specs and away you go. Charles |

I also have the same problem and will start with the engine mounts. Need to look that procedure up in the book. They look affordable at fastlane.
