Repairing idiot buzzer

The buzzer that sounds when the ignition is off and the lights are on stopped working. As I frequently have my lights on during the day, I continue to put myself at risk of returning to my car with a drained battery. Any suggestions for how to fix this? BTW, the buzzer that sounds when the keys are left in the ignition and the door opened works. (I think it is the same buzzer?)

Thanks in advance for any help.

You may get some responses if you let people know what car you have.

It is located under the lower panel on the drivers side. There are two aluminum boxes with plugs attached to them under there. Smaller one is the buzzer box, larger one is the cruise control. You can replace the whole buzzer box, or if you're skilled in the soldering profession you could try taking it apart and just replacing the piezo buzzer. Probably a lot faster and easier to just replace the whole thing.

Could be the switch too, since it works sometimes.

Yeah, sounds like the switch to me. In my experience, the buzzers start sounding really pathetic when they are going out. They'll still make noise though, it'll just sound like crap.

When you say "the switch" do you mean the light switch itself? How can that be detected/fixed?

Just wondering here, my buzzer sounds like pure crap. Is this a part that I could find in a catalog? Searching the fastlane catalog for warning, buzzer, and chime yields nothing.

Uhh, for $70... I think I'll just go with a buzzer that sounds like crap and a seat belt light that comes on when a relay is activated. I'm just too cheap.

I took apart the buzzer box on my 240D and found a burnt connection (like it had been shorted out). I just fixed the connection and it works perfectly, it's worth taking a look.

Maybe I should rewire mine to one of those 80s nissan "Your door is ajar" warning buzzers. God I hated those things.

I remember those, and I knew a geek who had one of those talking car alarms. You know, the one's that said step away from the car, I have been violated, people just laughed every time it went off. He had the sesitivity turned up so high, that my old '74 240D would set it off if I drove by his sled(mid '80s Beemer 3 series).

Those were the days.....

Unhappy same problem

I have the same problem.

My seatbelt warning works fine 100% of the time.

My dome light works 50% of the time when entering the car. If I pump by hand the spring loaded plunger on the door frame (by the dash) a few times it will normally come on. If I leave my lights on a open the door, it works 50% of the time accounting for 100% of my dead battery problems.

It doesn't look easy to remove off the car body.

Any ideas. Is it a spring problem, electronics contact problem. Bad wiring??
