ACC Type II or III

Hi,

Im making my 85 with an 82-4 engine work proper again, one of the issues that I have is with the ACC system. SOmetimes it starts, but it is a rare occasion. Thus, I think that the rest of the system is OK, other than that I'll need to jumper the klima relay for the AC compressor to operate.

My question is, since Ill be getting a rebuilt ACC, is there anything I should know about the type II vs. type III, and their reliance on an 8x vs 85 engine setup???

After the last fiasco, I don't know what to think - now I have an older engine in an 85 car, so I need to find the best of each world and make it all work.

What were the differences between the ACC type II and type III, and how can you tell what variety is in one's car? Does one require the tach signal or any other sort of signal like this?

Thanks!

JMH

Get a parts car

If this car is a keeper why not put a wiring harness from a 82-84 in it? You will have to remove the dash and while your in there you might as well take out the evaporator and clean it, on a 22 year old car its bound to be dirty and restrict air flow.
If you have the space, get a 82-84 parts car and start stripping it. I think you will find it interesting and maybe even fun, and its great practice for taking your keeper apart. Another added benefit would be that you could dissasemble, clean, and rebuild the evaporator box on the parts car first and just swap it out with the 85 and this would reduce your down time.
