what engines came in a 87 300d?
i saw that a user on here has a 87 300d with the dreaded 300d rodbender engine. how many horses does that have and is it still mechanically controlled and when did they start putting those in the 300d's? im also wondering what i should look out for in this car. ac? does it have the dreaded servos?

From the factory the '87 300D only came with the 603 3.0 liter 6cyl inline diesel....no rod bender, quite a long lived engine actually....as long as you never overheat it.

143hp stock with 195 ft-lbs of torque. EDS computer controlled idle seems pretty reliable so far. Only problem I've had is leaky delivery valve seals but a new set of washers fixed that problem. The idle is relatively smooth - especially with new engine mounts. Now, about the overheating problem.... I don't believe my car was ever overheated but I recently had to put a #18 head on it for a crack on #5. I think the original #14 heads can also crack in operation...
