Stating results without clear repeat-able scientific testing is about as good as taking a sugar pill for your headache. Mercedes Benz engineering is the antithesis of this type of thinking. I'm not claiming anyone is right or wrong- but all arguments are flawed to begin with using that type of logic.

I always thought that Mann filters were OEM for MB. In fact their part number is on the air cleaners.

I base my results purely on the surface area of the filter. It is fairly safe to assume that lower quality product will use less materials, and it is evident that increased surface area means greater throughput.

Obviously your talking about the easy to get stock filter and not the CA emissions, $50-$80 version. Must be nice.

Wix

We started out talking about air filters .....

The WIX site lists 42106 as the air filter for my 240D --- your site doesn't carry that part number.

Whyzat?

Air Filters

No, not the shop parts list -- the fleetfilter.com site he was touting.

The other WIX #s for a 1983 240D are:

Oil .................................51385

Pirmary fuel ....................33006

Secondary fuel ...............33149

Air ...............................42106

You have to order 12 ,,,

Its time to invest in a differential pressure gauge and a MAF sensor.

I always buy my air filter from the dealer, when I buy the fuel filters in the fall. Change it once a year as I'm putting the car away, and it seems to work well...as it has for the past 20 years and 260k miles.

1) You don't have to order cases from www.fleetfilter.com - you can order individually and as many/few as you'd like.

2) Wix has about 2000 part numbers, www.fleetfilter.com has about 1500 listed. The most common ones are on there, the least common ones are not. We may still have them in stock, even though they're not on the site. If we see a part number moving, we put it on the site.

You can email sales@fleetfilter.com and ask questions like "do you have this?" and "can you get it?"
