Proposed CA Law to Stop Refrigerant Sale to Do-It-Yourselfers

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is proposing a law (part of the state Green House Gas Initiative) to stop the sale of refrigrants (134a) to consumers. Note the article below that states "What costs consumer $10 today for a can of auto refrigerant will cost them $150 or more tomorrow if CARB gets their way". Wonder what R12 will cost then. Maybe I should stock up now!

Exclamation Must be a lot of Illegal AC Techs out there on the Left Coast...

The Illegal Immigrants must need the work.......Califunya would not simply eliminate Refrigerant sales for Green reasons.......

I believe that he said Mexico. It's not legal to bring it across the boarder.

You could bring your car down empty and back up full.

That's how you do it!!! for everybody in Tucson, ElPaso and SanDiego it is the best option. You cross the border and get a charge in an AC shop. Or for the lucky ones you go to Mercedes dealer in mexico and even get them steam washed!!!!

Avoid Mexican refrigerants. There is a reason it's so cheap, most of it is blended with propane and other hydrocarbons.

Ahhh
To have a friend in HazMat at the dump
He gets about 4 or 5 cans a year of R12 (14OZ) that people bring in for disposal. I have a steady supply. They have a code of honor at the dump, need before greed, if you need it you get it, if no one needs it then whoever wants it gets it.
